Watch Cal Raleigh make clutch first hit since May in Mariners return

The Seattle Mariners have been battling to retake their spot atop the AL West standings, and they got back a huge reinforcement on Tuesday in the form of star catcher Cal Raleigh. Raleigh has gone through some rough patches in his follow-up season to his near-MVP 2025 campaign, and on the 14th of May, the Mariners put him on the injured list due to an oblique injury.

After recovering from injury and rounding back into form during a rehab stint in the minors, the Mariners brought Raleigh back on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles and immediately put him back into the starting lineup. He slotted into the number two spot in the batting order, and he went 1-3 on the night with two RBIs and one walk, giving Seattle a boost in their 3-1 win over the Orioles.

In the seventh inning was where Raleigh did his damage for the Mariners in their latest victory. He came up to the plate with the bases loaded and just one out in the inning. He then proceeded to get a sinker outside the plate he could get full extension of the bat on, sending a sharp line drive to center field to drive in two runs to break the deadlock — for good.

It was clear prior to Raleigh’s trip to the injured list that there was something wrong with the Mariners star catcher. He entered the night with a paltry OPS of .560, which is nowhere near the type of production Seattle has grown accustomed to getting from him these past few years.

Dealing with an oblique injury is difficult, especially for someone who plays the grueling position of catcher. It was clearly hampering Raleigh’s play, but now that he’s healthy, he seems to be back as the impactful bat the Mariners need to keep on building on their cushion atop the AL West.

This latest win over the Orioles has now moved them to 38-36 on the season, 1.0 game above the Athletics in the win-loss column.
