Celebrity boxer disqualified from chaotic fight after storming out of the ring

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiol, also known as Portable, was disqualified from his boxing fight after storming out of the ring.

Portable was in action on Lagos, Nigeria topping a bill in Africa against fellow celebrity and Nollywood actor Charles Okocha as part of the DAZN schedule.

It was a rematch of their 2023 encounter, which Okocha had demanded with their opening bout ended in controversial fashion.

The full circle rivalry had seen the pair go back and forth all fight week, with tensions threatening to spill over on multiple occasions.

And the pair began at a frantic pace in their encounter as they were roared on by the crowd in the capital city.

Portable once again appeared to have the upper hand but the proceedings turned into farcical chaos.

Portable storms out of ring and disqualified

Things quickly turned extremely scrappy with the pair quite literally wrestling for control, holding on to each other for dear life.

Okocha then had hold of Portable, but the singer then decided to trip his rival with a powerful thrust, as if it was an MMA takedown.

The referee had no control of the contest whatsoever, and was unable to break the pair on the ground.

Portable continued to throw illegal small body shots into the sides of his rival in a bid to get him to release him.

The pair still continued to not be broken up, and the referee bizarrely took a step back allowing security officials and their respective camps to intervene.

After the hold was eventually broken the teams were furious and Portable, despite initiating the chaos, stormed out of the ring in fury.

He headed off up the ramp and to backstage, furious with how events unfolded in the ring.

Eventually he was convinced to return, but was subsequently disqualified from the fight.

It was the referee who delivered the verdict, finally deciding to get involved after losing control of the encounter.

Portable was not impressed with the outcome, and quickly remarked after the fight: “I am not happy,

“But I want God to make me happy and my family.”

He went off to show what he suggested were bite marks from his opponent after the bout.

The 32-year-old then went on to claim it was his opponent’s fault for persistent holding.

It is not the first chaos at a Nigerian boxing match in recent times, with tear gas going off during a clash between Basit Adebayo and Loren Japhet in May.

Boxing is growing in the region, with Anthony Joshua and Moses Itauma being eyed for a clash.
