Yankees rumors: NL East All-Star emerges on trade deadline radar

The New York Yankees are looking to make moves at the upcoming MLB trade deadline. New York is comfortably in the postseason race and will look to upgrade its roster for the stretch run. What those upgrades specifically look like obviously remains to be seen in the coming days. But trade chatter is certainly picking up across MLB.

One name that has begun popping up in trade chatter is Miami Marlins infielder Otto Lopez. MLB insider Jon Morosi mentioned that the Marlins infielder is generating interest ahead of the August 3rd MLB trade deadline. And he pointed to the Yankees as a potential landing spot.

“Otto Lopez, I was told the price is high. But you could certainly see a team like the Yankees, a team that needs some help (at shortstop)… I was told [a trade] is possible, not likely,” Morosi said on MLB Network during an appearance on Thursday.

Lopez won’t bring any power to the lineup for whichever team acquires him, assuming he’s traded. In saying this, he puts the ball in play and gets on base. He is slashing .329/.363/.490 entering play on Thursday with nine home runs and 50 RBI.

The Marlins were once one of the hottest teams in all of baseball. Unfortunately, the wheels have fallen off, and Miami has struggled mightily as of late. Miami could look to make strategic moves at the trade deadline to improve now and for the future as a result.

The Yankees have always shown their might on the trade market when looking to upgrade the team. It appears as if the 2026 MLB trade deadline will be no different. How it all plays out will certainly be an intriguing story to follow heading into August 3rd.
