Wednesday football tips

Bet of the Day – Bayern Munich to beat PSV @ 3/5

Bayern Munich have been drifting in the match odds for their Champions League tie at PSV on Wednesday night and it’s hard not to believe that the Bavarians are now available at a very backable price.

Vincent Kompany’s men have won 26 of their 30 matches in all-competitions this term and they have recorded six victories in seven Champions League matches.

A 3-1 loss to an elite-level Arsenal side is the only defeat on Bayern’s European card and, while the Germans also lost 2-1 to Augsburg at the weekend, Kompany’s side rate as the second-best team in Europe.

Of course, qualification to the knockout rounds is assured, but a top-two finish is still on the line for Bayern and the benefits of that position should ensure motivation is high in Eindhoven.

PSV were awful when registering only one shot on target in a 3-0 St James’ Park loss to Newcastle in their most recent European tie and Peter Bosz’s men were held to a 2-2 home draw by NAC at the weekend.

The standard of PSV’s performance against Newcastle is difficult to forget and, if the Dutch side fail to raise their game considerably on Wednesday night, they will be hammered by a brilliant Bayern.

Special of the Day – Over 4.5 goals & both teams to score in Barcelona v Copenhagen bet builder @ 2/1

Barcelona need three points if they are to have a chance of a top-eight finish in the Champions League, while Copenhagen require a victory to give themselves a shot at the play-offs.

A draw is no use to either side and these teams need no encouragement to go for victory.

Barca have certainly improved to become a dangerous attacking unit under Hansi Flick, but they lack the control of Europe’s elite teams.

There have been 24 goals in Barca’s last six matches and a total of 31 in their seven Champions League matches this term.

However, Flick’s side have failed to keep a single European clean sheet this term and they allowed seven strikes in four games against Club Brugge, Olympiakos, Eintracht Frankfurt and Slavia Prague.

Copenhagen aren’t far behind with 28 goals in their seven league phase games and, with a desperation for points, the Camp Nou tie could go goal crazy.

Take over 4.5 and both teams to score in a 2/1 bet builder.

Longshot of the Day – Pafos to beat Slavia Prague, Bayer Leverkusen to beat Villarreal, Bodo/Glimt to beat Atletico Madrid treble @ 31/1

Pafos have shown enough in a 1-0 win over Villarreal, a 2-2 draw with Monaco and narrow 1-0 loss to Chelsea to suggest they can beat Slavia Prague. There is a slight concern over Sunday’s 2-1 loss in a tough fixture against Larnaca, but Slavia look outclassed on their travels.

Only Kairat are keeping Villarreal off the bottom of the Champions League table and the Yellow Submarine have taken only one point in an awful European campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen have beaten Manchester City and Benfica in Europe this season and they should be far too good here.

Bodo/Glimt have downed City 3-1, drawn 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund, 2-2 with Tottenham and only lost 1-0 against Monaco and 3-2 to Juventus.

Those strong efforts suggest Norwegians may be capable of producing a big-price upset against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano.
