Watch Knicks fans across New York revel in first NBA title in 53 years
As the eminent poet Nas said: “Nothing’s equivalent to the New York state of mind.”
On Saturday, the countless nightmares of the New York Knicks were forgotten after they beat the San Antonio Spurs, 94-90, in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center to capture their first title since 1973.
It took more than five decades for the Knicks to return to the zenith, satisfying a starved fanbase that went through multiple seasons of despair, dejection, and embarrassment.
Now, the city is cloaked in joy, relief, and pride. After all, the Big Apple is not called the mecca of basketball for nothing.

The championship parade in New York is on Thursday, as reported by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.
The Knicks trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but as they have done all series, they refused to roll over. Jalen Brunson, who was named Finals MVP, led their fiery rally, taking the lead, 86-85, with only 3:40 left.
From there, the Knicks made all the right plays, including a crucial offensive rebound by Mitchell Robinson, which virtually doomed the Spurs.
For years, it felt like winning the title was a pipe dream. A shot at the moon. But the Knicks kept taking a shot. Now, they are the best team in the galaxy.
ESPN’s Mike Breen summarized it perfectly when the final buzzer rang in Game 5: “Knicks fans, this is not a dream! Your long, long wait has ended!”
