One of the most glaring weaknesses for the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5’s 94-90 loss, as the New York Knicks clinched the NBA Finals, was the offensive struggles of Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox. While Castle was 1-for-10 en route to six points, Fox finished with seven points on 3-for-15 shooting, including 1-for-8 from deep, as San Antonio’s season came to an end in five games (4-1) against the Knicks.

After the loss, Fox responded to his offensive struggles against the Knicks in Game 5, per the San Antonio Express-News’ Tom Orsborn.

“I got shots I’ve made in the past. Sometimes you just don’t make them. Some felt good. Back rim, in and out,” Fox said. “But that team is physical. They force you into taking jump shots and try to keep you out of the paint.”

De’Aaron Fox also finished with five assists and two steals for the Spurs in Game 5. Dylan Harper’s 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting led the Spurs in scoring off the bench. All-Star Victor Wembanyama added 19 points on 7-for-19 attempts, 14 rebounds, five blocks, and two assists.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson kept it 100 about Jalen Brunson after losing Game 5 of the NBA Finals, which ended his season, 4-1, against the Knicks. After Brunson’s 45 points led the Knicks to their first championship in 53 years, Johnson kept his response about the All-Star guard’s emphatic performance short, per SNY Knicks’ X, formerly Twitter.

“Make him [Jalen Brunson] score less points,” Johnson said during his postgame media availability.
