Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski sounds off on short night vs. Rays
Justin Wrobleski’s strong 2026 campaign for the Los Angeles Dodgers continued on Tuesday after he put together a dominant effort in a 1-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in the second of a three-game set. Wrobleski bounced back from a start in which he allowed four earned runs in just 4.2 innings to record six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five.
It did look as though Wrobleski was in cruise control for most of the night, which is why it was a bit surprising to see him not return to begin the seventh inning. The Dodgers had decided that Wrobleski’s night was over after just 67 pitches, which isn’t even too big of a workload to begin with.
Now, manager Dave Roberts revealed after the game that the Dodgers were simply being careful with Wrobleski, as he only had four rest days between two starts. Even then, Wrobleski didn’t seem too fazed by the fact that the team is treating him with kid gloves.
“My goal is to go out there and pitch ’til they take the ball away from me. I’m aware they’re gonna try to protect me and this organization, especially, does a great job of trying to protect your arm and keep you ready for September, October baseball,” Wrobleski told reporters, via SportsNet LA. “Obviously, I feel great. It feels great to pitch well and pitch well for a team like this.”

Wrobleski has suddenly found himself as an integral piece of the Dodgers rotation, and at only 25 years of age, he is impressing in his first full year as a starting pitcher. His ERA on the season is down to 2.72, and he has an impressive win-loss tally of 8-2.
The Dodgers have been giving him up to six full days of rest in between starts, so expect LA to perhaps go back to that schedule, especially when some of their veteran arms return to the fray.
