Chloe Kim makes feelings clear on NFL boyfriend Myles Garrett and who has the greater sports legacy

Chloe Kim came up narrowly short as she sought to defend her back-to-back Olympic titles on Thursday.

The 25-year-old is widely considered as the greatest ever women’s halfpipe snowboarder.

After qualifying first for Thursday night’s halfpipe final on Wednesday with a run of 90.25, Kim’s boyfriend NFL superstar Myles Garrett had full confidence that she was going to go on to win 2026 Winter Olympics gold.

“She’s going to do it,” Garrett told ESPN. “She’s the best.”

In the friends and family area at the bottom of the pipe after qualifying first on Wednesday, Kim and Garrett joked about who has the bragging rights for having the greater sports legacy of the pair.

“Me,” Kim said with no hesitation.

“You’re better than me?” Garrett responded.

“I’m funnier than you,” Kim replied.

“I’ll give her that,” Garrett admitted. “She’s funnier.”

“But who’s better-better?” Chloe asked her beau.

“I’ll let everyone else decide that,” he replied.

The Cleveland Browns star defensive end had a historic season in 2025 as he set a new NFL sack record.

The 30-year-old recorded 23 sacks in 17 games, just months after he signed a mega-money deal to stay in Cleveland worth four-years, $160 million.

Shortly after being unanimous named the Defensive Player of the Year at the NFL Honors, Garrett flew to Livigno, Italy to be by the side of his superstar girlfriend in her quest for golden glory once again.

Changing of the baton

Everybody knew that it was going to take something very special to stop the American from clinching the Winter Olympic gold – a feat no other snowboarder, male or female, has ever done before.

But what many expected to be a procession in Milano Cortina became more of a changing of the guard.

This came as 17-year-old Choi Ga-on rallied back from a brutal fall in her opening run to score 90.25 points on her final attempt.

Kim completed only the first of her three runs, in which she scored 88.00.

Despite having to settle for silver, Kim called the South Korean’s victory “a full circle moment.”

“She’s someone I’ve known since she was little,” Kim said.

“It’s such a full circle moment seeing her from when she was so young to now standing next to her on the Olympic podium.”

The ride to get to this point, though, was not smooth-sailing by any means for Kim.

During her preparation for the Games, there was some doubt creeping in over whether she would even be able to compete.

Whilst training in Switzerland last month, Kim dislocated her shoulder and suffered a torn labrum.

At the Games in Livigno, she competed with her shoulder in a brace – something the casual fan wouldn’t have noticed due to how little she showed it was affecting her.

With all the injury setbacks, which will now require her to undergo shoulder surgery, Kim claims that this silver medal means more.

“I’m so proud of myself,” Kim said after claiming silver. “There was a lot of conversation about me [going for gold] but honestly I’m just so glad I was able to get here.

“I think this one might mean more than the others. I think I put it all out there.

“In the past, I would take a cautious approach and ride to win, but these days I’ve just wanted to do what felt good and I feel like I really gave it my all.

“This is so satisfying to me.”
