WWE star Paige’s movie Fighting With My Family gets ‘surprise’ musical twist after return

Just days after Paige’s stunning WWE return at WrestleMania 42, her biopic, Fighting With My Family, will be turned into a musical.

It’s being reported that Fighting With My Family is being adapted into a stage musical, and it will be produced by Stephen Merchant and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as they both produced the movie, and Merchant wrote and directed it as well.

Paige reacted to the news on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “Surprise!!! [Fighting With My Family] is being turned into a MUSICAL!!!! Can’t believe how much impact my movie has made and I’m so honored it’ll be put on the big stage [face holding back tears and red heart emojis].”

The musical will still follow Paige’s journey. Merchant explained how, while making the movie, he thought it felt “like a musical.” So, this was a long time coming.

“When we were making the film, I always thought of it like a musical: a young woman from the ‘chorus line’ fighting to get her big break, surrounded by theatrical, larger-than-life characters and huge sweeping emotions,” Merchant said in a statement, via Variety. “I approached each wrestling match like it was a different dance number, building to a big show-stopping finale.

“Seeing the film reimagined for the stage feels like the natural next step. The team have captured the humor, grit and heart of the story in a way that feels both faithful to the film and completely fresh,” he continued.

The Rock also felt that Fighting With My Family is “exceptionally well suited for the stage.” He promised that “it will be an absolute blast for theatergoers.”

When does the Fighting With My Family musical about WWE’s Paige come out?

Variety’s report notes that closed workshops for the musical will begin in 2026. These will be held before a public presentation in 2027.

Fighting With My Family is a 2019 biopic about Paige. It follows her rise through the ranks at WWE. The Rock, who produced it, also appears in the movie as himself. Florence Pugh plays Paige, and Jack Lowden, Lena Headey, Nick Frost, and Vince Vaughn also star in it.
