Wings’ Azzi Fudd attacks Caitlin Clark’s defense for memorable first WNBA bucket

While the talk around the Dallas Wings is on the relationship between Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers, the focus for the team and the players is getting ready for the upcoming 2026 season. As Fudd gets ready for the 2026 season with the Wings, she would get her year started in the preseason game against star Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Thursday evening.

Fudd would score her first bucket in a Dallas uniform and on a WNBA court, though it is the preseason and not the actual regular season just yet. Still, Fudd scored with just over nine minutes left in the first quarter, driving to the free-throw line and pulling up for a mid-range jump shot, which she made over Clark in what is a memorable first basket.

There’s no denying that there is major hype for the Wings’ No. 1 overall pick, as she is the second consecutive player that comes out of UConn to be selected that high, with the obvious other one being Bueckers. From teammates at the collegiate level to now the professional stage, the two look to be the dynamic duo in Dallas and take the team to new heights.

The Wings are looking to have a winning record after the past two seasons, where they achieved nine and 10 wins in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Last season, the team finished with a 10-34 record, which was the worst record in the WNBA.

With the talent of both Fudd and Bueckers, the future does appear to be bright for the franchise as the team prepares for the regular-season opener on Saturday, May 9, against their preseason opener opponents in Clark and the Fever.
