Ravens’ Nnamdi Madubuike training camp update is great sign after scary injury

The Baltimore Ravens just got a massive shot in the arm. Star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike casually sneaked out behind running back Derrick Henry on Wednesday morning to return to the practice field, marking his first appearance in more than 10 months following a terrifying injury.

Madubuike was recently removed from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after passing his physical. The sight of the 28-year-old on the field is phenomenal news for a Baltimore defense that desperately missed him last season.

Madubuike suffered a severe neck injury in Week 2 of the 2025 campaign that not only ended his year but threatened his career. After undergoing neck surgery this past April, doctors gave him the green light to resume playing in 2026.

Before the injury, Madubuike was establishing himself as one of the most dominant interior forces in the NFL. Across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he racked up an impressive 19.5 sacks and earned consecutive Pro Bowl nods. His breakout 13-sack season in 2023 earned him a massive four-year, $98 million contract extension. Prior to going down early last season, he had already recorded two sacks in just two games.

“it’s still a process to get ready to play football and that’s something they’re gonna work through this next couple of weeks. I think everybody has a good feeling about where he’s at and where it’s headed.” Head Coach Jesse Minter said. “Super exciting to see that dude out there with his jersey on and his helmt, he looks great.”

While Minter indicated the team will ease Madubuike back into action by limiting him to individual drills for now, his mere presence is a game-changer. For a defensive front looking to re-establish its physical identity, getting their $98 million anchor back in the middle is the best news Baltimore could have hoped for entering training camp.
