Wednesday horse racing tips: Best bets at Leicester and Hereford from Tom Lunn

Wednesday horse racing tips

  1.45: Settle Down Jill 5/6 (1pt)
• HEREFORD
  1.05: Green Sky 9/2 each-way (1pt)
  2.05: Golan Loop 11/10 (1pt)

Settle Down Jill

The Skeltons are out again with another hopeful chaser but this mare is yet to win over such obstacle.

She’s won over hurdles just once but then went straight into Grade 2 company in November and now takes a step back again to a mares’ chase in Class 4 company.

This mare looks dangerous off this weight though and should be able to take this on comfortably.

Green Sky

Vol Royale is the second favourite but has only finished fifth in hurdles so far.

His first hurdle contest ended with being brought down at 18/1 and then went off at 80/1 at Chepstow in November.

Green Sky similarly has no winning hurdle form but did place second by a length at Ayr.

Gnomon looks like he could be a better hurdler but does require to do so on seasonal and hurdle debut, so it’s still a bit of a leap of faith in trusting the price.

That said, Green Sky comes into this on the back of a wind op.

But his best form also sets the standard so could well be the value play here.

Golan Loop

First chase start at Southwell in November was encouraging placing just behind Ali Star Bert who was carrying well over a stone less than this horse.

Second outing over fences often sees improvement and certainly has the backing of a trainer in form in Warren Greatrex.

The trainer has a 36% strike-rate in the last two weeks with five wins in just 14 runners.

James Bowen is up with a 22% strike-rate with six wins in 27 rides.
