England vs New Zealand Third Test: Day 5 start time, scorecard and where to watch as Ben Stokes retires

England and New Zealand conclude their Test series at Trent Bridge today with all three outcomes still possible.

The series has been dominated by events off the pitch rather than on it.

England captain Ben Stokes was suspended for the second Test after he ‘breached specific contractual obligations’ after their first Test win at Lord’s.

England were then crushed at The Oval last week, losing by over 250 runs to a New Zealand side inspired by Matt Henry, to make the series level.

After Joe Root stepped in as captain last time out, Stokes has been back to lead the team as they eye a much-needed series victory.

But in yet another shock twist, Stokes then announced his retirement from international cricket during Sunday’s action and this will be his final day in the England whites.

England require 270 runs to win the match and take the series while New Zealand need 6 wickets.

England vs New Zealand: What has been said?

Stokes made his stunning announcement to retire from England cricket on Sunday.

There were incredible scenes as Stokes took a wicket with the first delivery after news of his retirement was made public and was circulating around Trent Bridge.

A clip has been released from England’s dressing room with Stokes saying: “The reasons can wait, but I’ve had many trips to the well before for this team, for you blokes, for people beforehand and I’ve got one more trip to do.

“The only thing that I ask, please, is can everyone do the same.

“We’ve got a lot of hard work to do and the only thing I want is to be able to walk off that field, regardless of the result, knowing that I’ve had this group give everything for the last two days.

“That’s the only thing I want, for everyone to give it not only for me, selfishly, but also for this team.

“I’ve got the emotional side out of it, now it’s time to go to work. Please, everyone else come with me.”
