[WATCH] BBL 2025-26: Mohammad Rizwan retired out after sluggish knock against Sydney Thunder
Mohammad Rizwan was retired out during Match 33 of the 2025-26 edition of the Big Bash League in Melbourne Renegades' clash against Sydney Thunder. Rizwan could register only 26 off 23 at the Sydney Showground Stadium on January 12.
Rizwan, who came out to bat after the dismissal of Jake Fraser-McGurk, could never get going while at the crease. He struggled to time the ball and there were several instances of the wicketkeeper-batter not being able to punish poor deliveries to the fence.
The decision came from the Renegades' camp at the end of the 18th over as skipper Will Sutherland signalled to Rizwan to make his way out of the ground in what was clearly a strategic move by the team wanting looking capitalise in the last couple of overs. However, Sutherland could not make the most out of his chance and as run-out for a single off one delivery.
Melbourne Renegades ended up posting 170/8 in 20 overs after being invited to bat first, with Hassan Khan top-scoring with 46 off 31, including one four and four sixes. For the Thunder, Wes Agar was the most impressive bowler, securing figures of 2/23 in four overs, while David Willey and Ryan Hadley picked up two each as well.
Rizwan has not had the best of times with the bat in the ongoing BBL, having got past the 30-run mark only twice in eight innings. Speaking of the Renegades' campaign so far, they have played seven matches and managed to win only three so far. Interestingly, the Thunder are the only team to have had an inferior record, winning only one out of eight contests up until now.
