UFC 327 result dramatically overturned due to ‘scoring error’ as announcement made during Miami broadcast

Chris Padilla left the octagon at UFC 327 believing he’d extended his undefeated record in Dana White’s promotion.

However, the 30-year-old American lightweight soon found out the result of his preliminary bout against MarQuel Mederos had actually been ruled a majority draw.

Padilla fought Mederos, who was also undefeated in the UFC heading into UFC 327, early in the night on the Miami card.

After three action-packed rounds at 155lbs in an early fight of the night contender, Bruce Buffer, who experienced a mishap at UFC Seattle last month, announced Padilla had won the fight, with two judges scoring the contest 29-27 and a third 28-28.

But after Tatiana Suarez became the first woman to finish Loopy Godinez with an impressive rear-naked choke in the subsequent fight, UFC commentator Jon Anik revealed there had been an error.

“Welcome back to Miami,” commentator Jon Anik said after an ad break during UFC 327.

“So Chris ‘Taco’ Padilla got a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan; he might get a Fight of the Night bonus, but he did not win the fight.

“There was a scoring error; this was a majority draw.”

Joe Rogan, who was also in the commentary booth at UFC 327, even believed that Colorado native Mederos won the fight.

“Mederos, in my eyes, won that decision,” Rogan added.

The broadcast then revealed that two judges had scored the fight 28-28, meaning it was declared a majority draw.

Mederos was even deducted a point by referee Keith Peterson in the final round due to an illegal groin strike.

So the 29-year-old would’ve come out victorious to make it five wins from five in the UFC had that not happened.

But many members of the MMA fraternity were not happy the result didn’t go Padilla’s way.

Reacting to the news, one fan wrote on X: “This makes no sense…”

Another added: “How the f***!? There’s no way with the one point taken for that eye poke… Y’all judges need to be fired!”

A third said: “Bruh, the judging in MMA will forever be flawed.”

While a fourth added: “Padilla was winning even before the point deduction. UFC has horrible judges!”

One simply stated: “What an absolute f***ing joke.”

And another said: “Embarrassing. The result is bad enough, but getting it read out wrong, too.”

Padilla later wrote on X: “Welp, what else can I do? I gave my heart and soul.”
