Stephen Curry’s sneaker free agency leads to 70-plus-shoe auction for Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation: ‘Every pair tells a story’
Since parting ways with Under Armour in November, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has been the most sought-after sneaker free agent in all professional sports. While he is still taking his time with this process and figuring out the next stages of his shoe and apparel future, Curry has taken his sneaker free agency to new heights with his latest announcement.
Steph is partnering with Sotheby’s to auction more than 70 pairs of sneakers worn throughout his unprecedented sneaker free agency period this past NBA season, Curry’s business partners told ClutchPoints.
This collection of more than 70 different pairs of shoes shares the journey Curry has been on over the last several months, one where he has stepped away from a traditional brand partnership and turned each appearance into a curated expression of storytelling.
The selection of shoes being auctioned includes well-known brands like Nike, Jordan Brand, adidas, Reebok, Li-Ning, ANTA, New Balance, Puma, AND1, On, and more. From honoring icons like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan to putting the spotlight on women’s sports with Sabrina Ionescu’s signature shoe, Curry’s sneaker free agency has been a chance for him to change the game and spread awareness.

Now, he is taking things one step further with his partnership with Sotheby’s, as all the proceeds from this auction, which will take place from April 13 to 28, with each pair sold individually, will benefit Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, which Curry co-founded with his wife, Ayesha, in 2019.
“I’ve always believed that every pair of sneakers tells a story,” Curry said in a statement provided to ClutchPoints about his partnership with Sotheby’s. “This collection really captures a unique chapter for me during my sneaker free agency this season. From the tunnel walks to the on-court warm-ups to the games across the country, I was excited to spend this time shining a light on players over the years who have left their mark on the sneaker game.
“What makes this even more special is the impact it can have off the court. Every dollar raised will support Eat. Learn. Play. — the foundation that I co-founded with Ayesha — where we focus on the everyday needs that shape a child’s future with access to food, literacy, and safe places to play and grow.”
Curry takes sneaker free agency to next level

Throughout his sneaker free agency since his split with Under Armour, Curry has made sure to wear a different pair of sneakers in nearly every game appearance through the end of the 2025-26 season for no reason other than to have the freedom to tell the tale of his career in his own way.
Despite the uniqueness of selecting retro Air Jordans designed for off-court wear, a tennis shoe made for Roger Federer, and repeated and deliberate tributes to the women’s game and the WNBA, nothing about Curry’s sneaker selections was random. Every choice during his sneaker free agency has been intentional.
When Curry wore the Air Jordan 12 ‘Flu Game,’ a model synonymous with Michael Jordan’s iconic performance against the Utah Jazz during the 1997 NBA Finals, the Warriors star made sure to wear these against the Jazz.

His appearance in the Reebok Shaqnosis on the road against the Orlando Magic was a direct homage to Shaquille O’Neal, and he wore the Nike Sabrina 3 while Sabrina Ionescu was in attendance, signaling a public show of support for one of the defining stars of today’s women’s game.
“From the legendary NBA stars that I grew up admiring, to the current players that I’ve enjoyed competing against, along with some of the biggest names in the WNBA that are helping to drive the momentum across the women’s game, I had so much fun breaking out pairs all season long that each meant so much to me,” Curry continued. “When you look back at both sneaker culture and basketball history, each pair represents an iconic moment, groundbreaking athlete, or key chapter over the years in the NBA and WNBA.”
Here are some of the featured sneakers that Curry wore over the last few months and will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s:
- Pre-Game Warm-Up Worn Nike Kobe 6 Protro ‘Mambacita Sweet 16’
- Tunnel-Worn Nike Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Flu Game’
- Game Worn Nike Kobe 4 Protro ‘CHBL’
- Pre-Game Warmup & Game-Worn Nike Sabrina 3
- Pre-Game Warmup Worn ‘On THE ROGER Pro Fire’
- All-Star Weekend Adidas AE 1 Low ‘Gold Medal’ PE
Of the six sneakers listed above, the current estimates for Curry’s Game-Worn Nike Kobe 4 Protro ‘CHBL’ and Pre-Game Warmup & Game-Worn Nike Sabrina 3 are expected to go for anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000 when the auction begins. These are two of the highest estimated sneaker prices for the auction with Sotheby’s.
The Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation supports children’s well-being across Oakland through access to nutritious meals, quality reading resources, and opportunities to play, grounded in the belief that every child deserves a happy, healthy childhood. All of the proceeds from this auction with Sotheby’s from April 13-28 will go directly to this foundation.

For Curry and his family, there is no higher purpose than ensuring he can give back to the community around him, especially those kids who make his sneaker journey and career possible.
“That’s always been the bigger purpose for me. There’s no better feeling than being able to celebrate the game and enjoy everything around it, while also opening doors and giving back,” Curry said. “I hope these special pairs that were part of a key time in my sneaker journey can carry that same energy forward.”
