Sky rumors: Skylar Diggins potentially on the move as WNBA trade deadline nears

While the WNBA trade deadline has historically been not as active as its NBA counterpart, this season, some big names have already popped up in the rumor mill. One of the players who could find themselves swapping jerseys at the trade deadline is Chicago Sky veteran guard Skylar Diggins, as per Alexa Philippou of ESPN.

Skylar Diggins has been sidelined for the past eight games for the Sky as she deals with a knee issue, and she last played back on July 3 which was right before she revealed on social media that the Sky had planned to move her to the bench amid a disappointing start to the season. That’s made her a potential trade candidate as the deadline nears.

“Skylar Diggins is another interesting example. We know she hasn’t played since she was told was going to be coming off the bench in favor of Courtney Vandersloot. She also has some knee issues she seems to be working through,” Philippou said during a recent segment on ESPN. “But what I’ve heard is that the Sky as of now aren’t necessarily shopping her. But it also doesn’t seem, from the people I’ve talked to around the league, that a ton of teams, if any, are throwing out interest in her.”

Diggins signed with the Sky as a free agent this past offseason, and had appeared in 19 games at a little over 29 minutes per game. She was averaging 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists with splits of 39.2 percent shooting from the field, 38.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 77.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
