Red Sox’s Fenway Park woes reaching 1932 levels of pathetic
The Boston Red Sox aimed to build off of their surprisingly good 2025 season in which they won 89 games and made it to the postseason. However, 2026 has not gone according to plan for the Red Sox. They are currently sitting in dead last in the AL East standings with a 22-31 record, with their 7-6 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night making matters worse for them.
The Red Sox were supposed to defend Fenway Park and make it a fortress. However, the exact opposite has materialized for Boston. Their latest loss to the Braves, which came at home, was their 18th loss in 26 games. This 8-18 record they have at home at present has them on pace for a horrible 25-56 record at Fenway, which is rather unprecedented in nearly 100 years.
As per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, “the last time they played a full season with fewer than 30 victories at home was in 1932”. The Red Sox, 94 years ago, went just 24-47 at Fenway Park and 3-3 at Boston Braves Field.

Considering that teams should have an advantage when playing in the friendly confines of their own ballpark, the Red Sox should have plenty of room to improve moving forward. This was a team that was comfortably above .500 at home last season (48-33), and there’s no reason to expect them to suddenly be an atrocious team at home.
It’s not like the Red Sox are far off from scoring some important wins at home. They lost by one run to the Braves on Tuesday, with some late-game relief woes putting Atlanta out of reach of a potential ninth-inning comeback.
The good news is that only 53 games have elapsed in the 2026 MLB regular season. The Red Sox have 109 more games to play, which is over two-thirds of a season, so they have plenty of time to turn things around — both at home and on the road.
