Rangers place Wyatt Langford on IL

The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Wyatt Langford on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right forearm flexor strain before Wednesday’s game against Pittsburgh following his early exit from Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the Pirates. The injury originated during a swing in his second at-bat, when the 24-year-old first felt tightness. Although he returned to the field, continued discomfort during test swings led to his removal after four innings.

An MRI on Wednesday confirmed the diagnosis, with manager Skip Schumaker indicating the team does not expect Langford to miss more than the minimum 10-day period. Through 20 games this season, Langford is hitting .238 with one home run, four RBIs, three doubles, and two triples, along with a .274 OBP and .363 SLG. In 84 plate appearances, he has managed a 78 wRC+, a step back from his .247/.335/.423 line and 115 wRC+ over the previous two seasons.

While production remained below expectations, Langford was trending upward before the injury. He entered Tuesday on a five-game hitting streak, batting .435 (10-for-23), and had reached base in 11 consecutive games, tying the longest on-base streak by a Ranger this season.

Texas recalled outfielder Alejandro Osuna from Triple-A Round Rock as the corresponding move. Osuna was batting .262 (17-for-65) with one home run, eight RBIs, and 10 walks in 17 games, while reaching base in 15 straight contests. He also recorded a .358 on-base percentage and made defensive starts across all three outfield positions. The 23-year-old slashed .212/.313/.278 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 63 games this past season.

The Rangers will likely rely on a combination of Ezequiel Duran, Sam Haggerty, and Andrew McCutchen in left field. Duran has been the most productive, hitting .298/.353/.447 with one home run and eight RBIs, supported by improved walk and strikeout rates.

Additionally, right-hander Marc Church was outrighted to Triple-A after clearing waivers.
