Raheem Sterling told perfect Premier League landing spot that would be controversial

Raheem Sterling has been urged to stay in the Premier League and join another London club after leaving Chelsea.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after the Blues terminated his contract by mutual consent on Tuesday.

Sterling departs Stamford Bridge 18 months early, having not played for the club since May 2024.

Fulham, Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen previously showed interest in signing the winger in the summer.

Meanwhile, West Ham United enquired about a potential loan deal this month.

However, Sterling’s desire had been a permanent move with the former England international preferring to stay in London.

Who should Sterling join?

Jamie O’Hara has now told the forward to consider a controversial switch to his old club Tottenham Hotspur.

Discussing Sterling’s next landing spot on The Sports Bar, the talkSPORT co-host explained: “I would have him at Tottenham.

“I would absolutely take Sterling at Tottenham. I think he’s a good player. He’s better than what we’ve got.”

O’Hara continued: “I’d sign him on a contract to the end of the season if he was willing to do that.

“I don’t know what other offers he’s got in terms of, he might have a long-term contract in Saudi offering him loads of money.

“But if the candle is still lit and he wants to still be a Premier League football player I would give him an opportunity at Tottenham.”

The former midfielder is convinced Sterling still has the desire to compete in the Premier League, adding: “I think he still has the desire.

“He’s been training on his own and he’s had his contract paid up. He wouldn’t have got the full settlement so he’s basically turned around to them and said I can’t be here anymore I need to go and play.

“So for me he’s got the desire to play. Spurs need a left winger. Now, I’m not saying you give him a long-term deal but I’d give him a contract if he was on offer on a free, you get Sterling in a football club.

“I think he’s a good player. I think he could still produce moments. I think if he got his confidence back and a bit of belief I would have him at Tottenham.”

A move to Spurs could be contentious for Sterling, though, given his former clubs.

As well as spending three and a half years with Chelsea, he enjoyed a season-long loan spell with Arsenal last term.

Despite his links to Spurs’ bitter London rivals, though, Sterling would arrive with a wealth of Premier League experience.

Sterling has made 396 top-flight appearances for Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, scoring 123 goals and adding 75 assists.

Meanwhile, he won 11 trophies, including four league titles, during his time at City.

At international level, Sterling has also scored 20 goals in 82 caps for the Three Lions.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan sent a warning to clubs looking to sign the now freely-available Sterling.

He told White & Jordan: “He got bombed at City, he’s been bombed at Chelsea, he’s got bombed at Arsenal. What’s the common denominator? Raheem Sterling.

“Why would Crystal Palace want to sign a player that doesn’t want to lift a leg, who would rather sit there?

“I guarantee you he wouldn’t be so concerned about playing in London or living in London or working in London if someone came and offered him £500,000-a-week.”
