Becky Hammon gets ultimate cold take with Jalen Brunson’s NBA Finals MVP

Becky Hammon owes Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks, and every undersized underdog a huge apology.

With Brunson and the Knicks going on an inspired run in the playoffs en route to the NBA Finals, Hammon suddenly found herself among the side stories. She infamously claimed in 2023 that Brunson cannot lead the Knicks to the title because he is small.

On Saturday, the 6-foot-2 guard stood the biggest, leading New York to its first title in 53 years after a come-from-behind win over the San Antonio Spurs, 94-90, in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center.

Brunson went off for a game-high 45 points, including numerous clutch buckets in the fourth quarter. He shot 14-of-27 from the field and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line, adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

He was named Finals MVP, the ultimate rebuke of Hammon’s old comment.

Becky Hammon: [The Knicks] don't have a dude… you got to have a 1A dude."

Kendrick Perkins: "They do have that dude."

B: "Who?"

Fans, who clearly did not forget, rubbed it on the WNBA legend.

Before the NBA Finals, Hammon, who coaches the Las Vegas Aces, stood by her strong remark, although she said she is willing to be proven wrong by Brunson.

The three-time All-Star averaged 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.0 steals against the Spurs, registering one of the most memorable finals runs in recent memory.

Yes, it is not always heart over height. But this time, it was clear what won.
