Pistons president makes Malik Beasley admission amid investigation

The Detroit Pistons president had a significant update on their interactions with Malik Beasley amid the NBA’s investigation towards him.

Beasley hasn’t been back in the NBA since the end of the 2025 postseason, his last year with the Pistons. He was due for a major contract deal before the league announced its investigation on Beasley due to gambling allegations.

While Beasley hasn’t sustained a suspension with the NBA still progressing through its findings, it hasn’t compelled a team to pursue his services until it ends. Pistons president Trajan Langdon gave an update about Detroit’s interactions with Beasley, revealing that conversations between the two haven’t been present.

“A still-ongoing gambling investigation scuttled the Pistons’ plans to re-sign Malik Beasley, who had a historic 2024-25 season with the franchise, last offseason. The Pistons still have his non-Bird rights and can sign him to contract starting at $7.2 million following the conclusion of the investigation,” reporter Omari Sankofa wrote.

“In May, Langdon said the investigation was still ongoing and they hadn’t been in touch with Beasley about a reunion. A month later, nothing has changed. Langdon clarified he hasn’t talked to Beasley, who he said doesn’t have an agent.”

What lies ahead for Pistons amid Malik Beasley update

Malik Beasley will hope for the best results when the NBA finishes its investigation on him. As for the Pistons, they look to make solid improvements to the roster to boost their chances at a deep playoff run next year.

Beasley stands out as a quality perimeter shooter, having helped Detroit return to the playoffs in 2025 following a five-year drought. The 2024-25 season saw him average 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game throughout 82 appearances.

Detroit is coming off an incredible 60-win campaign this past season, securing the first seed in the Eastern Conference standings. They earned their first series win since 2008 after beating the Orlando Magic in seven games before losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the East Semifinals.
