Mets’ Andy Green shares powerful take on Freddy Peralta after Rays trade

The New York Mets have begun their fire sale, and the latest move involved Freddy Peralta. Peralta was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays after an ill-fated and brief tenure in Queens. Interim manager Andy Green knows that this is a difficult time. But he still had positive words to share after learning of the news.

“He came here to anchor a rotation and felt the weight of that,” Green said of his now-former pitcher, via John Flanigan of SNY. “I know from talking to him certainly doesn’t feel it went the way he hoped it would, and we all feel that way. Where we are today screams we’re all wishing we were in a different spot — he gave us everything he had, stepped on the mound everyday and competed, I know he wanted better results.”

Peralta joined the Mets in an offseason trade from the Milwaukee Brewers. New York hoped he would anchor their rotation and be the ace they had been lacking. Unfortunately, things did not pan out that way.

The veteran pitcher recorded a 4.99 ERA as a member of the Amazins. New York has tumbled down the standings and are currently last in the NL East. Peralta was only the latest in a string of moves, and he may not be the final player traded out of Queens before the MLB trade deadline.

Peralta certainly wanted more from his time in New York. The Mets, obviously, wanted the same. Sometimes, things don’t work out. Both sides now have a chance to move on and put this bleak tenure behind them.
