Pep Guardiola walks away from interview after Manchester City question from Laura Woods

Pep Guardiola dodged a question on his Manchester City future after winning his 20th trophy at the club.

City beat Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon, with Antoine Semenyo scoring a fantastic backheel winner on 72 minutes.

Guardiola has lifted the FA Cup for the third time in his career, and in a season that many have speculated could be his last.

There has been a growing expectation that he leaves the club in the summer after ten glittering seasons.

talkSPORT understands former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, one of Guardiola’s former assistants, is the clear frontrunner to replace him.

However, when asked about whether or not he will leave City at the end of the season, the Spaniard chose not to explain his plans.

“Pep, there are so many rumours about you leaving. You’re not, are you?” Laura Woods asked during an interview on TNT Sports.

At first, Guardiola appeared confused with the question, but he then smiled and said: “What rumours? Have a lovely evening!”

Guardiola then placed his microphone on the table and after shaking hands with the panel, he walked away.

Is the end in sight?

Having previously shone at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola took little time to become a success at City.

He won the first of his six Premier League titles in his second season, and a seventh could follow next weekend.

Guardiola also oversaw the club’s first ever Champions League victory, as well as five Carabao Cup triumphs and other worldwide honours.

City have asked the 55-year-old if he plans to see out the rest of his contract, which expires next summer.

As talkSPORT reported at the beginning of April, senior figures at the club do not if he will stay or go at the end of the season.

Sources also said that they hoped Guardiola could confirm a decision on his future, at least privately, in the March international break.

Guardiola signed his current deal in November 2024 after City lost four consecutive matches in all competitions.

“Maybe the four defeats were the reason why I felt I cannot leave,” he said, although uncertainty has cropped up once again this season.

However, he insisted that he does in fact have one more year on his contract during his pre-FA Cup final press conference.
