Paige Bueckers reveals what she’s learned from Stephen Curry’s game
In a conversation about her gravity on the basketball court, Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers revealed what she’s learned from studying Stephen Curry’s game. Curry and his ability to move off-ball as a three-point shooter introduced the conversation of player gravity to the lexicon of basketball.
In an interview with Melissa Triebwasser, Bueckers spoke about how she balances attacking the defense versus using the attention the opposing defense pays to her to benefit her teammates.
“Just to read what the defenses are giving me. [I] started off the game aggressive…started off the second half aggressive. Just seeing a lot of single coverage, and then towards the end of the game, they were trapping and blitzing everything. So to be able to play off of that and just read what the defense is giving me.
She added, “Be selfless too. Being able to get off of it, being able to be a screener. I mean, if you watch Steph Curry, he’s probably the best screener in the NBA, and he has the best gravity in the NBA. So to sorta mimic after him and his off-ball movements, his off-ball screening and his selflessness, um, is something that I’ve actually learned from him a lot.”
Although the Wings lost to the Minnesota Lynx 90-86 on Thursday, Bueckers finished the game with 27 points while connecting on three triples in the matchup. She also had eight assists, certainly underscoring her ability to attract the attention of the defense and set her teammates up to get good looks in the flow of the offense.
