NBA announces MVP finalists, award announcement

The NBA officially announced the finalists for the 2025-26 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award on Saturday, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama earning the league’s top individual honor nominations.

The announcement was made through the NBA’s official PR account on X, formerly known as Twitter, which also confirmed the winner will be revealed Sunday night.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama named MVP finalists

Gilgeous-Alexander enters the race seeking his second consecutive MVP award after leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to another dominant season. The Thunder star is also attempting to guide Oklahoma City to back-to-back NBA championships after emerging as one of the league’s premier two-way guards over the past few seasons.

Jokic, meanwhile, is looking to secure the fourth MVP award of his career with the Denver Nuggets. The Serbian center remained among the NBA’s most productive and efficient players throughout the 2025-26 season, further strengthening his case as one of the greatest centers in league history.

Wembanyama earned his first MVP finalist selection after a breakout sophomore campaign with the San Antonio Spurs. The 7-foot-4 phenom recently captured the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award unanimously and helped lead San Antonio to a deep postseason run.

The MVP race also adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming Western Conference Finals matchup between Gilgeous-Alexander and Wembanyama. The Spurs advanced after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Oklahoma City is set to host San Antonio in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
