Legendary 25-year ESPN veteran announces return to network for new show with son

Two beloved former ESPN hosts are returning to the network.

ESPN’s new weekday slate is set to debut on Monday, August 3, and will welcome back one of its legends and his son.

Mike Golic Sr. and his son, Mike Golic Jr., will co-host a new show ‘The Golics’, a morning show from 10:00-12:00pm EST during the week.

Following a successful eight-year NFL career for the Oilers, Eagles and Dolphins as a defensive tackle, in which he appeared in 115 games and five playoff games, Golic Sr. retired and ventured into broadcasting, much like Pat McAfee and Dan Orlovsky.

Golic Sr. was at ESPN for a quarter of a century from 1995-2020, and became one of their most recognizable voices.

From 2000-2017 he hosted the ‘Mike & Mike’ show alongside Mike Greenberg.

This was followed by a short stint hosting ‘Golic and Wingo’ with Trey Wingo.

His son, Golic Jr., also joined the network in 2015 and established himself as one of their most versatile voices.

He appeared across the radio, digital platforms and on television programs, with a particular eye on college football.

In 2021, Golic Sr. departed and joined the Draftkings Network, closely followed by his son the year after.

The father and son duo would spend three years together at DraftKings before they opted not to renew their respective contracts.

They were quickly swooped up by FanDuel Sports Network and co-hosted the show “Golic/Golic”.

“The opportunity to keep working with Dad has been awesome in this new setting,” Golic Jr. said in an interview with John Mamola of Barrett Sports Media after joining FanDuel.

“I’ve seen him fired up about how it’s going and having a lot of fun with it.

“Coming into my career, getting to work with my dad meant something different than it does now. I have more of an appreciation.

“We got to do it at ESPN, and then that opportunity was taken away from us when Golic & Wingo ended. We weren’t sure if we were going to get it back.”

Now back where they started together, company hire-ups are excited to see them in action once again.

“Reuniting with the Mikes Golic was a tremendous opportunity for our audience,” ESPN’s Executive Vice President, Executive Editor, Sports News and Entertainment Mike Foss said in a statement.

Their show will follow ‘UnsportsmanLike’ with Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf, who are leaving the weekend behind for a midweek slate.
