Lane Kiffin’s final message to Ole Miss after crushing CFP loss

Ole Miss will marinate in despair for the next few days after suffering a painful loss to Miami, 31-27, in the semifinal of the CFP at State Farm Stadium on Thursday.

The Rebels looked like they were on their way to the national championship game with less than three minutes remaining after taking the lead, 31-27. Carson Beck, however, led the Hurricanes on a fiery drive, culminating in his game-winning touchdown rush with only 18 seconds left.

One person who was heartbroken after Ole Miss’ bitter defeat was former coach Lane Kiffin. He took to X to express his support for the sixth-ranked Rebels.

“Amazing effort and grit, @OleMissFB. Best season ever in the history of Ole Miss! Love (you) guys,” wrote Kiffin, who signed a seven-year, $91 million deal with LSU in November.

The 50-year-old Kiffin called the shots for Ole Miss from 2020 to 2025, tallying a 55-19 record. He helped the team to an 11-1 record this year before his exit. He was replaced by Pete Golding.

Kiffin, who was the subject of a tug of war between LSU and Florida, also agreed that Miami should have been called for pass interference in Ole Miss’ last-gasp play.

Kiffin’s tweets, however, did not sit well with many Ole Miss supporters, saying he should have just kept his mouth shut. Some believe that he cannot talk about the Rebels after he left them in exchange for a bigger payday.

Meanwhile, Golding echoed the reaction of his predecessor after they fell short.

“I will just remember how they embraced each other. There was a lot going on the last month. They’re going to be talking about this for a long time,” said Golding in a report from the Associated Press.
