76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey doesn’t have time to be ‘timid’ despite finger injury

The Philadelphia 76ers continue to battle adversity as Tyrese Maxey drives a critical late-season push. With Joel Embiid sidelined following an appendectomy, the urgency has intensified, placing even greater responsibility on Maxey despite a lingering finger injury.

Maxey powered the 76ers to a crucial 105–94 victory vs. the Indiana Pacers on Friday, snapping a three-game losing skid and improving the team’s record to 44–37. The win kept Philadelphia firmly in the playoff hunt with one regular-season game remaining.

The 25-year-old guard recorded 32 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while playing through a painful right pinky tendon injury. He shot just 1-for-10 from three-point range, showing visible discomfort but remaining aggressive throughout the game.

In the second half, the two-time NBA All-Star re-aggravated the injury after a collision and briefly exited to the locker room. He returned shortly after, reinforcing his role as the team’s focal point in Embiid’s absence.

NBC Sports Philadelphia underscored his resilience with a graphic posted to X, formerly Twitter, capturing the tone of his performance.

Maxey admitted his shooting hand felt “funny,” leading to occasional hesitation. Still, he emphasized that he does not have time to be timid with the postseason approaching.

Philadelphia currently sits eighth in the Eastern Conference. A top-six finish remains within reach, but they will need a win in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Milwaukee Bucks, along with losses by the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors.

As the playoffs near, the 76ers’ path may run through the Play-In Tournament. Maxey’s ability to perform through injury could ultimately define how far the 76ers advance.
