Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns makes personal history with triple-double vs. Hawks

The New York Knicks needed a win on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive, as the club entered Game 4 against the Atlanta Hawks down 2-1 in the series. Karl-Anthony Towns stepped up big for the franchise, as he had a career playoff performance in the 114-98 win over Atlanta.

Early in the fourth quarter, the 30-year-old center drove toward the basket before dishing it off to OG Anunoby wide open in the corner. Anunoby sank a three-point shot, giving Towns his 10th assist on the day. That dime gave Karl-Anthony Towns his first-ever triple-double game in the playoffs in his career.

“With this assist, Karl-Anthony Towns records his first career playoff triple-double,” said ClutchPoints’ X account.

With Game 3 coming to an end, Towns has recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 60.0% from the floor and hitting one of his two three-point attempts. The 11-year veteran also added two steals on the day, making it a well-rounded performance for the Knicks star.

This is also just Karl-Anthony Towns’ fifth triple-double in his career. He has only ever achieved the feat four times previously, all in the regular season. His last triple-double came in the Knicks’ 130-119 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on April 1.

His presence was needed in this one, as the Knicks needed to avoid going down 3-1 in the series to the Hawks. Saturday’s win ties it at 2-2, and the club regains the advantage again with Game 5 heading back to New York.

Towns played 75 games for the Knicks in the regular season. He served as one of the team’s go-to options alongside Jalen Brunson, averaging 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. He also owned a 50.1% field goal percentage while shooting 36.8% from beyond the three-point line.
