Despite employing multiple pitchers with inside tracks for the NL Cy Young award this year in Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ best starting pitcher statistically has been one who didn’t even start out the year in the rotation: Justin Wrobleski.

After coming up short to Roki Sasaki and Emmit Sheehan in the team’s spring ball starter competition, Dave Roberts inserted Wrobleski into the starting rotation when he expanded it out to six, and thus far, that confidence has been rewarded five times over, with the 25-year-old etching his name into LA history with another strong showing, according to the California Post’s Jack Harris.

“Justin Wrobleski today: 6 innings, 0 runs, 6 hits, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts,” Harris wrote. “He is only the second pitcher since 2017 to go six scoreless with no Ks (José Quintana in 2024), and the first Dodgers pitcher to do so since Mike Morgan in 1991. His ERA is 1.25 .”

Initially drafted by the Mariners in the 36th round of the 2018 MLB Draft coming out of high school, Wrobleski opted to go to college at Oklahoma State, where he improved his stock and came off the board to the Dodgers in the 11th round in 2021. Wrobo made his Dodgers debut in 2024 and really came into his own in 2025, where he largely came out of the bullpen as an innings eater before going down in World Series history for his bench-clearing altercation with Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez.

Has Wrobleski been perfect? Statistically speaking, yes, but there is still room for improvement, with the 25-year-old, again, failing to record a strikeout in his six innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on 83 pitches. Still, while some hitter will eventually launch one of Wrobleski’s two pitches into the stands, or a series of savvy bats will find a way to manufacture a run or two of the third-year pro, it’s clear the Dodgers’ eventual starting pitching conversation when Blake Snell returns just got a whole lot more interesting.
