Jazz’s Walker Kessler breaks silence over rumored unhappiness with $140 million offer
The NBA offseason is in full swing, and the Utah Jazz have reportedly offered a $14o million deal to Walker Kessler. Now, he has broken his silence about his alleged unhappiness with the offer, according to an Instagram post.
“I’ve seen what’s being said, and I want it to be clear that I have always wanted to be here — I love this city, these fans, my teammates, my coaches — that’s real to me. You don’t grow roots where you don’t want to be,” Kessler wrote on Instagram.
Kessler likely may sign the contract with the Jazz, but there is still work to do. Currently, there is no deal. Kessler is a restricted free agent, which means other teams can match whatever offer the Jazz give him. Ultimately, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in him, which could pose a problem for Utah as they attempt to extend their talented center.
Kessler is coming off an injury-plagued season, as he lasted just five games before sustaining a torn labrum in his left shoulder, ending his season. Despite the limited action, he averaged 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while shooting 70.3% from the field. Numbers like that make him appealing, especially to teams that can afford the contract.
Kessler has not signed a deal with the Jazz, and things could escalate if they cannot sign him. For now, he remains in Utah. But that could change if Kessler and the Jazz cannot come to terms. If that happens, it will give teams like the Lakers the chance to swoop in and steal him.
