Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua purse and prize money: Mind-boggling amounts on offer for Netflix showdown in Miami

Anthony Joshua’s decision to entertain a fight with Jake Paul has been called into question, but the answer was never in doubt.

As Joshua enters the twilight of a career that has included two reigns as unified heavyweight champion, the Watford powerhouse is looking to bank as much money as possible before he hangs up his gloves.

The 36-year-old had initially been in talks to face an unheralded opponent in a low-key undercard fight this month.

And yet he has now been thrust back into the limelight after an offer was slid across the table by Paul’s handlers.

The approach came after Paul pulled the plug on his exhibition bout with Gervonta Davis in November due to a series of harrowing allegations made against the WBA lightweight champion.

While Andre Ward, Francis Ngannou, Nate Diaz, and Ryan Garcia were also reached out to by Paul’s business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, AJ quickly rose to the top of the pile.

And judging from the Daily Mail’s recent scoop, both fighters are set for incredible paydays in Miami on December 19.

How much will Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua make for their fight?

According to the British tabloid, a money-spinning prize pot of £140million is being put up for the spectacle.

This purse will be split down the middle, meaning both men will pocket an equal share of £70m.

It could be the easiest payday of Joshua’s life, who far exceeds Paul in skill, size and experience.

During a 12-1 professional boxing career stretching back to 2020, Paul has mostly fought ageing MMA fighters, with the sole blemish on his record coming against area-level boxer Tommy Fury.

Joshua, on the other hand, holds victories over the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin.

While AJ’s best days are now behind him, as was evident during his crushing knockout loss to Daniel Dubois the last time he stepped between the ropes in September 2024, he still has enough left in the tank to dispatch Paul with ease.

And in Hearn’s eyes, the juice is worth the squeeze, even if knocking out a relative novice adds nothing to his client’s legacy.

“If there is a chance for us to run out in December and take care of this bloke and get him out of the boxing world while making several 10s of millions in the process, then of course,” Hearn told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan.

“It’s difficult to have this conversation, and sometimes you just have to be as honest as possible.

“Should Jake Paul be fighting Anthony Joshua? No. Is he mad to do it? Yes.

“Is there tens of millions of dollars for Anthony Joshua to have an eight-round runout against Jake Paul? Yes.”
