Iowa State signs 15.7-PPG scorer in transfer portal

Iowa State made a run to the Sweet 16 in 2026, but will need to reload their roster for another run next season. Milan Momcilovic has declared for the NBA Draft, while other players have run out of eligibility. This has led to a busy offseason for the Cyclones in the College Basketball Transfer Portal.

Now, Iowa State has added a fifth player in the portal, signing a 15.7 PPG scorer, according to Joe Tipton of On3.

Robert Morris transfer guard Ryan Prather Jr. has committed to the Cyclones. In his junior season, he earned All-Horizon League honors, scoring 15.7 points per game while adding 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Prather also was solid from three, shooting nearly 37 percent from behind the arc.

Prather began his career at Akron, redshirting in 2022-23. He would play in just 15 games in his next season with the Zips and average just 5.1 minutes per game. This led to his transfer to Robert Morris. In his first season with the Colonial, Prather started 12 games and played in 35, while averaging 8.3 points per game. This last campaign was a breakout for him, though.

Prather scored 20 or more points in nine different games last year, including a career high of 29 in a win over Detroit Mercy late in the season. He also scored 24 points in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament against Youngstown State.

T.J. Otzelberger and the Cyclones hosted five transfers on visits, including Prather. Leon Bond from Northern Iowa, Taj Manning from Kansas State, JaQuan Johnson from Bradley, and Tre Singleton from Northwestern all took visits to Ames, and all five have signed with the program.
