Champions League club eye Crysencio Summerville as Manchester United stall on move

Roma are rivalling Manchester United and Tottenham in the race to sign Crysencio Summerville, talkSPORT understands.

The West Ham forward is poised to depart the London Stadium this summer following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Summerville proved to a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing season for the Hammers – firing in seven goals from 34 games in all competitions.

And his stock has risen as a result of his dazzling displays at the World Cup in North America.

The 24-year-old chipped in with two goals and as many assists as the Netherlands reached the round of 32 – where they lost to Morocco on penalties.

What clubs are interested in Summerville?

Spurs have long-standing interest in the ex-Leeds winger, having lodged an enquiry to bring him to north London in January.

Meanwhile, United opened talks with the Hammers earlier this month in their quest to secure his services.

Though both clubs could now be pipped to his signature by Serie A side Roma, who like United, can offer him Champions League football.

It is believed that the Italian outfit are working on a deal for Summerville, as they look to raid a Premier League club once again for a forward.

Roma snapped up Donyell Malen from Aston Villa in January on loan, before turning his temporary stay into a permanent transfer worth £21.3million in May.

talkSPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs has declared that Marcus Rashford‘s situation at Old Trafford is delaying the Red Devils from formalising their interest – which may give Roma belief they could win the race for him.

The England international will return to the Theatre of Dreams after Barcelona decided against signing him on a permanent deal.

Rashford helped the Blaugrana retain their LaLiga title while on loan, but they refused to activate his £26m buyout option.

And with Barcelona since bringing in Anthony Gordon for £70m, while also being close to announcing the arrival of Karim Adyemi from Borussia Dortmund, Rashford is facing an uncertain future.

Summer lovin’

Providing an update on Summerville’s potential next club, Jacobs said on The Window: “Spurs are one of the clubs that have looked at Crysencio Summerville – Roma are working on that deal.

“Manchester United have appreciation for Summerville.

“But any addition over on that left-hand side of attack will likely be contingent on Marcus Rashford being sold.

“And at the moment, all quiet on that front.”
