Immanuel Quickley Game 2 injury update after Raptors miss him ‘big time’ in Game 1 vs. Cavs

Toronto Raptors point guard Immanuel Quickley missed Game 1 of the Raptors’ first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a hamstring injury. However, Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic noted Quickley is improving and didn’t rule him out for Monday’s Game 2, per Joe Reedy of The Associated Press.

Quickley suffered the hamstring injury in the final game of the regular season against the Brooklyn Nets. The Raptors guard was questionable heading into Saturday’s Game 1, only to be ruled out before tip-off. Jamal Shead got the start in place of Quickley and performed admirably with 17 points, but Toronto suffered a 126-113 defeat in Cleveland.

Rajakovic lamented Quickley’s absence after the Raptors racked up 18 turnovers and managed a season-low three fast-break points after leading the NBA in the category during the season.

“We missed Quickley big time with the way he gets us organized and his shooting helps our team out,” Rajakovic said. “I like Jamal’s defense and what we need on the court. We wanted to have multiple ball handlers on the floor with Jamal.

“Our biggest problem was our 17 turnovers. We had a lot of situations where we were careless with the ball. They won the possession battle. And in transition, I thought we did a very, very poor job.”

Toronto shot 52.1% from the field and 13-of-27 from 3-point range, but the turnover problems resulted in 10 fewer shot attempts than Cleveland. The Raptors also had no answers for a scorching-hot Cavs offense that shot 54.3% overall and 16-of-32 on 3-pointers.

Quickley had been healthy most of the season until missing eight games from the end of March through early April with plantar fasciitis. Now this hamstring injury is costing him playoff games, and Toronto looks to be in real trouble.
