Frank Warren confirms boxer Lee Reeves in hospital overnight after leaving ring on stretcher following heavy KO

Lee Reeves was held in hospital overnight on Saturday after a heavy knockout loss to Gary Cully at Dublin’s 3Arena.

The Irish boxers put on a Fight of the Year contender before Cully rendered Reeves unconscious in the 10th round to claim the BUI Celtic super-lightweight title.

Momentum had ebbed and flowed up until Cully connected with a hellacious left hand to end proceedings 52 seconds into the final frame.

Reeves plummeted to the canvas and remained there for an extended stretch as medical staff tended to him.

He received oxygen and left the ring on a stretcher before being rushed to hospital.

Frank Warren releases statement on Lee Reeves

Providing an update on Reeves’ condition, Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren released the following statement: “All our thoughts and prayers are with Lee Reeves and his family at this time as he remains in hospital.

“Everyone at Queensberry is thinking of him, and we’re in constant contact with his team regarding his condition as we hope for positive news.”

Cully was equally as concerned for his opponent.

Speaking in the immediate aftermath, he said: “My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves, hopefully he’s okay.

“He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now.

“But he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him.”

In victory, Cully improves to 20-2, while Reeves falls to 16-2.

Cully had to dig deep for the win after absorbing several big shots and having a point deducted in the fifth round for repeatedly losing his gumshield.

The Naas boxer added: “It doesn’t come into your mind when you’re in there because I’m a fighter.

“I’ve always been a fighter, and that’s just what I do, but I did have to dig deep in there.

“I had to show I had balls; I always knew I had balls. There was never a question in my heart or my head.

“I really had to think in there, and that shot that came in the tenth round was a greatly timed shot.

“I had to stay switched on and stay concentrated.”
