Man United consider surprise move for Premier League star as Lewis Hall alternative

Manchester United could make a move for Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.

talkSPORT understands that while Newcastle‘s Lewis Hall remains Man United’s preferred left-back target, Lewis-Skelly is being considered.

Man United are looking to bolster their options on the left-hand side of defence, with Luke Shaw currently the only senior player in that role.

talkSPORT initially reported in March that Man United had identified Lewis-Skelly as a possible signing.

The 19-year-old saw minutes hard to come by at Arsenal last season, and his cause won’t be helped by the permanent signing of the versatile Piero Hincapie – who thrived on loan at left-back to help the Gunners end their 22-year Premier League title drought.

With Riccardo Calafiori also ahead of Lewis-Skelly in the pecking order, a move away from the Emirates Stadium might be the England international’s best option as he looks to kick on his career.

Having risen through Arsenal’s youth ranks and broken into the first team in 2024/25, Lewis-Skelly made just five Premier League starts last term amid stiff competition for places.

While he’s already been capped six times by England, he’ll need to be playing more regular club football if he’s to truly establish himself at international level.

Lewis-Skelly still has four years remaining on his Gunners contract and is valued by Transfermarkt at just under £38.5m.

However, Man United have been told to pull out all the stops to bring Hall to Old Trafford.

With Eddie Howe stepping down as Newcastle boss on Friday, more player exits from St. James’ Park might well follow – and Hall could be among them.

talkSPORT pundit Flex has told Man United to put in a substantial opening bid for the 21-year-old.

Man United have been busy adding to their squad during Michael Carrick‘s first full transfer window as head coach.

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are the headline arrivals so far, joining from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.

The Red Devils have also added Wales goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer following his departure from Leeds.

Having continued their pre-season with a 2-1 friendly win over Atletico Madrid in Sweden on Saturday – with wonderkid JJ Gabriel playing his first senior minutes – Carrick’s men get the 2026/27 campaign underway with a trip to newly promoted Hull on August 22.

They then take on another promoted side, Ipswich, in their home opener eight days later.
