Dylan Harper reveals ‘biggest thing’ for Spurs to remember in Game 3 vs. Knicks

Losing the first two games of the NBA Finals can be very disheartening in and of itself. Losing the way the San Antonio Spurs did in Games 1 and 2 against the New York Knicks has to be very devastating. The Spurs followed up their 105-95 loss in Game 1, which came as a result of allowing an 11-0 Knicks run to end the game, with an even more crushing 105-104 defeat in Game 2, with Victor Wembanyama’s brutal turnover costing his team dearly.

Being an athlete at this level requires having the memory of a goldfish. Even then, it can be very difficult to shake the feeling that they just let two very winnable games slip from their fingertips. For a young team such as the Spurs, that feeling has to sting even more.

Nonetheless, Spurs rookie Dylan Harper, who has the composure of a 10-year veteran who’s been here before, knows that the team cannot be consumed by regret since they aren’t exactly out of the series quite yet even though the Knicks are up 2-0.

“I think the biggest thing for us is just staying together, not putting our heads down. We just have to focus on the next game. It’s not the first to win two. We can’t really hang our heads on that. We just have to come out with a mentality of just being more desperate,” Harper told reporters, via Spurs Nation on X (formerly Twitter).

It will take some monumental mental fortitude for the Spurs to be able to shake off these kinds of losses. But they didn’t make it this far by being mentally fragile. They did come back from a 3-2 series deficit in the previous round against the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder, winning Game 7 on the road.

It ain’t over until it’s over, and the Spurs need to hang on to that mentality for dear life heading into Game 3 at the Knicks’ fortress.
