Dream’s Rhyne Howard receives crucial injury update in home opener vs. Aces

The Atlanta Dream have started the season off well, as they’re currently the only undefeated team left in the WNBA, sitting at 2-0. They’ll have their first true test in their next game, as the defending champion Las Vegas Aces come into town for the Dream’s season opener.

Unfortunately, the Dream won’t be at full strength, as Rhyne Howard is in concussion protocol and has been ruled out for the matchup. This is a big blow for the team, as Howard has done a little bit of everything so far this season. They’re already missing Brionna Jones, who is still recovering from her meniscus injury from the offseason.

Luckily for the Dream, they have the depth on the team to combat some of their injuries. Allisha Gray has been the leading scorer for the team, and Angel Reese has provided a boost on both ends in her first season since getting traded.

Jordin Canada will also have to step up for however long that Howard is out. In their last game against the Dallas Wings, Canada finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

One person that the Dream are hoping can get in a rhythm is Naz Hillmon, who hasn’t produced much on the scoring front to start the season, but is doing other things on the floor to help the team succeed. If she can get things going with Howard absent, it could go a long way for the rest of her season.

Hopefully, Howard doesn’t have to stay in protocol for long, and the next chance she’ll have to play is against the Phoenix Mercury on May 24.
