Dream GM, head coach break silence on ‘no-brainer’ Angel Reese trade

The Atlanta Dream made a series of moves during the week, and there’s no doubt that they’re looking to come back this upcoming season and compete. The first move they made was probably their biggest, as they acquired two-time All-Star Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky, sending two first-round picks in return.

General manager Dan Padover spoke about the acquisition in a recent press conference, and he let it be known that it was a no-brainer for the Dream to trade for her when she became available. Head coach Karl Smesko said it was a trade that they discussed at the end of last year.

“We thought that would be a great addition for us if we could do something like that,” Smesko said. “I think it’s exciting that we have this much talent accumulated on the roster. Now it’s a matter of being able to play together and become the team I think we’re capable of becoming.”

“That’s something I discussed with Chicago over the offseason, and the last few weeks it started to expedite. And we felt really good about the opportunity to make the trade,” Padover said.

As far as what Reese can bring to the Dream, Smesko knows the talent that she possesses on both sides of the floor.

“Everybody’s aware that she’s the best rebounder and the most relentless rebounder in the league, but I also appreciate the other skills that she brings to the team, from competitiveness to being able to handle the ball,” Smesko said. “She’s somebody that can grab and go. She can be on either side of a pick-and-roll. 
I think that versatility just makes her kind of a unique talent, and she already meshes well with the players that we have on our team.”

With training camp in just a few weeks, it will be interesting to see how they mesh together.
