Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto vows to fix 1 issue after tough-luck loss to Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the San Diego Padres by a score of 1-0. Yoshinobu Yamaoto took the loss in the game after going seven innings and giving up one run. It was a nice rebound start for Yamamoto, who had been struggling.

While Yamamoto gave up just one run, it was another difficult first inning, as Miguel Andujar hit a home run for the only score of the day. Now, the Dodgers pitcher is speaking about the slow starts, per SportsNet LA.

“Settling into the game has been a bit of a challenge for me,” Yamamoto said through his interpreter. “In my mind, I know how to fix it. I’m going to work on it.”

This year, the pitcher is 3-4 with a 3.32 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. Still, the first inning has been an issue for him this year. In nine starts, he has given up nine hits, two home runs, and four walks in the first inning this year. He has also given up seven runs, giving him a 7.00 ERA. In the second through fourth innings, he has given up just 15 hits and six runs, with only five of them being earned. His ERA then spikes again in the fifth inning, as it goes back to 6.00, facing batters the second time through the lineup.

Yamamoto has given up runs in the first inning in four of his nine starts, and gone 1-2 in those four games. His next scheduled start is on Monday, back at home against the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers are 29-19 on the season, placing them in second place in the NL West. They can reclaim the top spot in the division on Tuesday night as they face the Padres.
