Ange Postecoglou becomes Cristiano Ronaldo’s new manager in shock appointment

Al-Nassr have announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new manager.

The Australian arrives at the Saudi Arabian club on a two-year deal.

Postecoglou replaces Jorge Jesus, who departed the club after leading them to the Saudi Pro League title.

A post translated from Arabic on their X said: “A new chapter. Mr. Ange Postecoglou as coach of the first football team at #AlNasr club

“And that with a contract extending for two seasons

“Our best wishes for success to him and his staff in their journey with the Global Club, God willing.”

Given Postecoglou has won trophies at just about every stop in his managerial career, even at Tottenham Hotspur, the news of his appointment will likely be welcomed by Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a serial winner in his own right.

Other big names in Al-Nassr’s squad include Joao Felix, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman and Marcelo Brozovic.

From Brisbane to Riyadh

Postecoglou won the Australian and Japanese league titles before he took his first step in British football with Celtic.

He delivered two Scottish Premierships, the Scottish Cup and two Scottish League Cups across two seasons at the Bhoys.

Such success rewarded Postecoglou with a move to Spurs in 2023.

The north Londoners went unbeaten in the Premier League until the start of November that year, but ultimately finished fifth.

Postecoglou then guided them to Europa League success a year later, which ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

However, he was dismissed in the summer of 2025 and replaced by Thomas Frank.

A swift return to management was sealed in September when he joined Nottingham Forest.

Postecoglou was brought in to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, but had a difficult spell at the City Ground.

He went winless across eight matches, with six ending in defeat, and was dismissed 39 days after he joined.

Postecoglou was later linked with a return to Celtic, as well as the Leeds United job, but has now chosen Al-Nassr as his next club.
