So it is no surprise that with the Vince Lombardi trophy on the line, things between opposing teams, and even sometimes coaches and their players get heated.

Below, talkSPORT ranks the three biggest Super Bowl bust-up’s in history.

Travis Kelce’s heated dispute with Andy Reid inspires Kansas City Chiefs

With the Kansas City Chiefs aiming for their second-straight Super Bowl victory in 2024, tensions were expected to be high. It wasn’t helped by the start they made to the game too.

Blanked by the Niners defense in the first quarter, their first drive of the second-quarter didn’t go so well.

Isiah Pacheco fumbled a Patrick Mahomes pass which was recovered by Javon Hargrave and gave the ball back to the Niners.

Their slow start left Travis Kelce furious, when returning to the touchline, he was pictured screaming in Andy Reid’s face, and bumping him before Jerick McKinnon held him back.

Whatever Kelce said to Reid seemed to light a fire underneath the Chiefs, as they would eventually go on to win the Super Bowl in overtime.

The future Hall-of-Famer would later apologise to his head coach, admitting he crossed a line on the New Heights podcast.

“I can’t get that fired up to tat point where I’m bumping Coach and it is getting him off balance and stuff.

“I wasn’t playing well, and we had to get some S—- going and sometimes emotions get away from me and that has been the battle of my career.”

Bruce Irvin makes NFL history in wild brawl during final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX

In what was a relatively tame game up to this point, tensions boiled over in the final seconds of the fourth quarter between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Deep in New England’s territory, Russell Wilson’s attempted game winning pass was intercepted by Malcolm Butler, ultimately ending Seattle’s chances.

With 18 seconds left on the clock, the Patriots kneeled. Several Seahawk defenders, including Bruce Irving, would shove through the line.

Some heated words were exchanged, and then punches were thrown in what turned into a huge scrap in Patriots territory.

As a result of this, Irvin made NFL history by becoming the first player in Super Bowl history to be ejected after instigating the ugly fight.

New England would hold on to win by a score of 28-24, their first of three Super Bowl titles in five-years.

“I was protecting a teammate,” Irvin told reporters after the game.

“I went and backed up my brother, I went about it the wrong way. Emotions were flying high and I apologize. But if it happened again, I would go and protect my teammate, that’s just how it is.”

Cary Williams pushes referee in Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl victory over San Francisco 49ers

When the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers met in Super Bowl XLVII, emotions were running rampant. It only took a quarter-and-a-half for those emotions to come to fruition.

Colin Kaepernick overthrew Randy Moss, and safety Ed Reed took advantage with a game changing touchdown.

As referees began to break up the scuffling between some players, Ravens cornerback Cary Williams lost his cool and pushed an official, having to be held back by several teammates.

Somehow, Williams was not penalised for this, with Corey Graham and Joe Staley receiving slaps on the wrist instead.

The Ravens would win by a score of 34-31, handing the Niners their first Super Bowl loss in franchise history.
