AJ Styles was ‘a little confused’ by Kairi Sane’s shocking WWE release

Just days after the successful conclusion of the 2026 WWE WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada, fans received the shocking news of WWE’s roster cut. Several LFG, NXT, and main-roster Superstars were let go, including Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and even Kairi Sane.

While Kingston and Woods were granted their release following a mutual decision, fans were shocked to learn of the releases of Aleister Black, Vega, and Kairi Sane, especially Sane, who was involved in an active storyline with Asuka on Monday Night RAW. Recently speaking on his Phenomenally Retro podcast, WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles revealed his surprising reaction when he learnt about Sane’s exit.

“I think everybody’s a little confused. Asuka and her as a tag team, and then it just kind of… we don’t know exactly what the case is. That one caught me off guard as well because it was a great tag team thing. I feel like Kairi was doing her best work as of now. I wish I had answers. I don’t have these answers for you guys,” Styles said.

“I don’t know what this means for her. Is she done wrestling? Is she going to go back to Stardom? What’s next for Kairi Sane? But I know that she was loved, and she was amazing. And yeah, I just hate that,” he further added.

Styles was very close with Sane and Asuka, given their history in Japan. With Sane now gone, “The Empress of Tomorrow” is currently involved in a heated rivalry with IYO Sky on RAW.
