Jasdeep Singh CricTracker Exclusive Interview — Excerpt
We’ve seen your picture with Yuvraj Singh. Did he give you any advice?
Yeah, quite a lot actually. I see him every now and then, and over time we’ve built a decent friendship through one of my close friends. He’s always talking about being fearless and not worrying about what’s going to happen which is exactly how he played his cricket. That’s something he constantly stresses, being mentally ready for anything. When you look at his journey and what he’s been through, especially with his health, it just adds more weight to his words. He really pushes you to bring that character onto the field.
Who was your idol growing up?
I started cricket a bit late, but when I really began watching the game closely, Freddie Flintoff was always the one for me. I loved the way he played. He could win games with the ball and then turn things around with the bat. I’ve always tried to model myself as someone who can contribute in every aspect of the game and be the backbone of the team. Getting the chance to meet him during the last World Cup was really special for me.
You played against Jasprit Bumrah in 2024. Did you get any advice from him?
I honestly wish I had. Everything happened so quickly that day. We had to leave right after the match, so there wasn’t time to sit down and talk. This time around, though, I’m really looking forward to interacting with him and learning as much as I can during this phase of the World Cup. I’m genuinely excited about that opportunity.
