Yankees rumors: Insider drops eye-opening intel on Anthony Volpe’s injury return
With fans wondering when New York Yankees star Anthony Volpe will make his return from injury, it looks like there will be more time for the shortstop to spend in the minor leagues before being called up. As the Yankees look to decide on Volpe with his rehab window ending, this team insider discusses the latest on the matter.
Jack Curry of the YES Network would say that from what he’s gathered, the team will not promote Volpe to the majors just yet, especially with how well Jose Caballero has been playing.
“The indications that I’m getting from talking to people around the Yankees, and as you said, listening to Boone, is that the Yankees are not going to move forward and promote Volpe to the major leagues, not just yet. And I think we look for answers from the organization, and in recent days, Boone has been giving you those answers,” Curry said.
“When he was asked questions about Volpe, his answers were mostly about Caballero,” Curry continued. “In fact, one question to him was about how would Volpe benefit from not being promoted to the major leagues? And Boone talked about what Caballero has done. Caballero deserves the opportunity to continue to play shortstop. Anthony Volpe is part of the Yankees present and their future. I just don’t think it’s going to happen tomorrow.”

Yankees’ Aaron Boone on Anthony Volpe, Jose Caballero
There’s no denying that Volpe is important to the Yankees long-term at 25 years old, but even manager Aaron Boone would echo the sentiments of Curry, saying how Caballero playing well “complicates it.”
“Well, one, Caballero’s playing the heck out of the position and playing really well, so that complicates it. Just deciding, what’s the role that exists right away? Those are things we’ve got to continue to work through.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen when Volpe returns to New York, as he has yet to make his 2026 debut after recording a .212 batting average to go along with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs last season. The Yankees are 22-11 before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
