Yankees manager Aaron Boone sums up what he sees in Luis Garcia Jr. after huge trade

The New York Yankees have made another move ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. The Yankees have traded for Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals.

Now, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is speaking out about his new addition, per YES Network.

“He rakes,” Boone said of Garcia upon hearing of the trade. “He can really hit.”

Garcia is having a career year. He is hitting .283 with a .313 on-base percentage. He also has 23 home runs and 76 RBIs, both of them already career highs.  He primarily has played second base in his career, but over the last two seasons, he has moved to first. That is where the Yankees also have Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt. IT is possible that Garcia could play some second base and let the team move Jazz Chisholm Jr., an impending free agent, to third. Still, Garcia has not been great at second base in his career.

The team could also split time between Goldchmidt and Garcia at first or DH, depending on the pitching matchup, and allow Rice to play first and DH. Boone is not the only one excited about adding Garcia to the lineup. Gerrit Cole is also excited about the news, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN.

“It’s one of the blessings about playing for the Yankees. The organization is always pushing forward and doing their best to improve the team whenever they get the opportunity to. As a Yankee player, it’s a beautiful position to be in. You can just trust what the organization has done over the years,” Cole said.

The team may not be done making moves. The Yankees could make one more big offensive move before the trade deadline on Monday.
