Yankees’ Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon receive new injury updates before Angels clash

New York Yankees star pitchers Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole are continuing to recover from injuries. While it remains to be seen when they will return, the starters received new injury updates on Wednesday, via Gary Phillips.

“Carlos Rodón is going to throw live BP in Somerset on Saturday. Gerrit Cole is going through a bullpen session today, so still TBD on what his next outing will look like (game or live BP), though that’ll likely be in Somerset too on Friday,” Phillips wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Both Cole and Rodon are working their way back from elbow injuries. Before the season, reports suggested they both could return within the first few months of the 2026 campaign. New York is going to proceed with caution, however. It is only mid-April, so an official return timeline has yet to be revealed.

Cole last appeared in an MLB game in 2024. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2025. When healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in the sport. He is 35 years old, but Cole could still make a significant impact once he returns.

Rodon, 33, was an All-Star in 2025 but he underwent elbow surgery during the offseason after making 33 starts last year.

The Yankees are continuing to closely monitor both starting pitchers’ injury recoveries. Updates on their statuses will be provided as they are made available.

On Wednesday, the Yankees will host the Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium. The series is tied 1-1. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST on Wednesday night.
