Yankees’ Cam Schlittler drops ‘easy to rage-bait’ claim on Blue Jays fans

As it has been a red-hot start for New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler to begin his career, it continued against the Toronto Blue Jays after another good outing in the 3-1 win on Saturday. With the historic start for the Yankees’ pitcher in Schlittler, he would speak before the game about Blue Jays fans and how they act.

Speaking to the media before his scheduled start on Saturday, Schlittler would speak about Toronto fans and expressed how simple it is to “rage-bait” them. Though the 25-year-old would say that fans of the Blue Jays are “passionate” and respect them for that, he would make sure to say, “I don’t really like them.”

“The fans don’t like us. The fans don’t like me. They’re easy to rage-bait,” Schlittler said, according to SportsNet. “All the stuff last year in the playoffs or whatever it is – They’ve got a whole country behind them, so there’s a lot. They’re passionate about it. You respect them for that, but I don’t really like them. They ended our season last year. I hope everyone’s got that chip on their shoulder.”

In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Toronto, Schlittler led the Yankees in throwing seven innings, only allowing one run while striking out seven batters, though he walked four players and did let go of six hits. Entering the contest, Schlittler had recorded a 1.82 ERA (third in the majors) to go along with 96 strikeouts and a 7-3 record.

There’s no denying that after the comments made by Schlittler and the outing that he had on Saturday, the pitcher is public enemy No. 1 for the team. The Yankees next take on the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon to close out the series, as the team is 42-27, which puts them first in the AL East.
